VIV (Very Important Volunteer) PROGRAM
Volunteering with the PTA provides you an opportunity to become involved in your child's academic program as well as the opportunity to meet other families and make new friends. Research studies show that kids do better when parents are involved in their education. Grades are higher, test scores improve, and attendance increases.
Volunteering can be as simple as spending an hour in the library re-shelving books, helping your child's Teacher in the classroom, or tending a Growing Great Garden. There are a variety of opportunities available, and any amount of time is appreciated. Whether you have an hour a year, an hour a week, or an hour a day, all volunteers are welcome.
Here are some events and positions that we always need volunteers for:
· Yearbook Staff (Event Photographers, Graphic Artists, etc. to help Yearbook Coordinator)
· Library (Fall/Spring Book Fair, also Book Cataloging throughout the year)
· Jog-A-thon (October coordinate class participation, tally laps, etc.)
· Fundraiser Distribution (Fall/Spring)
· Art Show (place classroom artwork on display in GMC)
· Craft Night (TBD)
· Holiday Baskets (December help put together baskets for people in need)
· Growing Great (Become a trained docent to teach/assist in five nutrition lessons)
· Growing Great Garden (Help create/maintain garden and/or serve Harvest of the Month)
· Classroom Volunteer (Help the teacher in the classroom or in your free time)
· Classroom Representative (Assist teacher in coordinating classroom events)
If your are interested in volunteering, you will need to fill out the volunteer form that was included in the registration packet at the beginning of the school year. If you are available, any help is appreciated. The form can be returned to school through your child's classroom, or it can be dropped off at the front office.

Assembly bill (AB) 1667 became effective on January 1, 2015. It replaced universal tuberculosis (TB) testing with a TB risk assessment questionnaire therefore updating California law to reflect current federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) targeted testing recommendations. All regular volunteers must submit to the school office a TB risk assessment questionnaire (completed by a primary care physician) if they do not have a valid TB test.
